LTI 1.3 with Moodle


Introduction

These instructions describe how to register Auralia and Musition as an LTI 1.3 tool in the Moodle LMS (learning management system) and create assignments.

Tool registration

  1. Navigate to Site Administration → Plugins → Activity Modules → External Tool → Manage Tools.
  2. Under Manage Tools select Configure a tool manually.
  3. Use the following settings:
    • Tool name: Auralia / Musition
    • Tool URL: https://lti.risingsoftware.com/launch
    • Tool description: Auralia and Musition music education
    • LTI version: LTI 1.3
    • Public key type: Keyset URL
    • Public keyset: https://lti.risingsoftware.com/oauth/jwks
    • Initiate login URL: https://lti.risingsoftware.com/oauth/login
    • Redirection URI(s): https://lti.risingsoftware.com/oauth/redirect
    • Custom parameters: Leave blank
    • Tool configuration usage: Show as a preconfigured tool when adding an external tool
    • Supports deep linking (content-item message): Yes
    • Content Selection URL: Leave blank
    • Icon URL: Leave blank
    • Secure Icon URL: Leave blank
    • Services - IMS LTI Assignment and Grade Services: Use this service for grade sync only
    • Services - IMS LTI Names and Role Provisioning: Use this service
    • Services - Tool Settings: Do not use this service
    • Privacy - Share launcher's name with tool: Always
    • Privacy - Share launcher's email with tool: Always
    • Privacy - Accept grades from the tool: Always
  4. Click save changes.
  5. In the tool list, find the new tool and press the view configuration button to see the configuration details. Send these in an email to cloudsupport@risingsoftware.comin order for your tool deployment to be linked to your Auralia/Musition cloud service.
    • Platform ID
    • Client ID
    • Deployment ID
    • Public keyset URL
    • Access token URL
    • Authentication request URL

NOTE: If you are on Moodle 3.x, there won't be a 'view configuration' button.  Open the Settings again and the Client ID will be visible, the Deployment ID will be found in the URL andther items can usually be derived from the hosting URL.

Create a practice activity

  1. In a course, enable edit mode and click Add an activity or resource in the topic where you wish to place the activity.
  2. Select External Tool from activity types.
  3. Enter a name for the activity.
  4. From the Preconfigured tool menu, choose the Auralia / Musition tool added above.
  5. Press Select Content to choose between Auralia Practice and Musition Practice.
  6. Under privacy, ensure that the launcher's name and email are shared with the tool.
  7. Click Save and return to course.

Creating a task activity

  1. In a course, enable edit mode and click Add an activity or resource in the topic where you wish to place the activity.
  2. Select External Tool from activity types.
  3. Enter a name for the activity.
  4. From the Preconfigured tool menu, choose the Auralia / Musition tool added above.
  5. Press Select Content to choose between Auralia Task and Musition Task.
  6. Under privacy, ensure that the launcher's name and email are shared with the tool and grades are accepted from the tool.
  7. Under grade, set the type to point and set a maximum score.
  8. Click save and display. Auralia / Musition opens.
  9. Within Auralia / Musition, select an existing Auralia or Musition test or course to use or create a new one, then click Attach to associate this with your Moodle assignment.

Migration from LTI 1.1

To migrate from 1.1, edit each of the four LTI 1.1 tools you have registered as follows:

  1. Change the LTI version to 1.3.
  2. Keep the URL unchanged.
  3. Enter the public key type, keyset URL, login URL, redirect URL, tool configuration usage, services and privacy as above.
  4. Supports deep linking: no
  5. Send the tool details for each of the four tools to cloudsupport@risingsoftware.com:
    • Platform ID
    • Client ID
    • Deployment ID
    • Public keyset URL
    • Access token URL
    • Authentication request URL
